Coventry Editorial 29th Oct, 2016   0

A TRIP to Glasgow lies ahead for Wasps Netball who begin their debut season in the Vitality Superleague against fellow newcomers Scottish Sirens next year.
The fixtures are out for the new season which will see ten teams battling it out to be crowned the champions, with three new teams added to the mix including Wasps Netball, Scottish Sirens and Severn Stars.
Wasps being their campaign at the Emirates Arena on February 21 and their first home match will take place on March 5 as they take on Herts Mavericks at the Ricoh Arena.
Other key games include facing Severn Stars in Worcester on March 17, with the return fixture taking place on May, while Wasps’ director of netball Tamsin Greenway will come up against her former club and defending champions Surrey Storm for the first time away on April 1.
A 2017 version of last year’s successful ‘Super Saturday’, this year dubbed ‘Super Ten’, will take place at Birmingham’s Genting Arena on February 25 where fans will be treated to seeing all ten teams in action under one roof.
Wasps round off their regular season at home as they take on Team Bath on June 3, but hope to be in action a week later for the grand finals.
“We have been full on in our training camps but the girls are really looking forward to the action starting for real,” said Greenway.
“We are taking on England under-21s in December but it is the Superleague we are really gearing up to and to see the fixtures only intensifies our focus.”
England Netball chief executive officer, Joanna Adams, said she was delighted to welcome the ‘iconic’ sporting brand Wasps in to the league.
She added: “We are sure they will be as keen to be competitive in their first season, as they always have been in rugby and we are sure that the other teams will relish the challenge.
“The Superleague has continued to grow in popularity since its launch in 2005 and with record attendances and ticket sales last year, we were keen to make a bold move in growing the number of teams and the aspirations of all involved. We feel this line-up really achieves this.”

*The general public will get to meet the full Wasps Netball squad in the Wasps Nest Fan Village for the first time ahead of Wasps’ Aviva Premiership clash with Newcastle Falcons on Sunday, October 30 (kick-off 2.30pm).
From midday, fans can watch and get involved with a number of drills with the Wasps Netball squad, and experience elite netball first-hand. There will also be the opportunity to chat to the players who will be available for photos and autographs throughout the day.
