COVENTRY United Women have been dealt several further blows ahead of the new Women’s Championship season after captain Katie Wilkinson and goalkeeper Lucy Thomas both departed the club.
Wilkinson was a key figure in United’s great escape from relegation last season and scored seven goals to keep the Red and Greens afloat including the crucial strike in a 1-0 win against Lewes in the penultimate game of the season.
And keeper Thomas has also left the club after producing a fine run of form to close out the campaign which saw her keep six clean sheets in their final seven Championship fixtures.
Thomas has since joined Championship rivals Birmingham City along with former United player Mollie Green who scored the goal that kept the Red and Greens in the second tier on the final day of the 2021/22 season.
Defenders Naomi Hartley and Grace Riglar have also left Butts Park Arena with a raft of new signings expected to be announced in the coming weeks following the appointment of Lee Burch as the club’s new head coach.
