SWIMMING - Rugby Artistic Swimming Club win the Swim England Artistic Swimming Combo Cup

RUGBY ARTISTIC SWIMMING CLUB ended 2021 on a high as they won the Swim England Artistic Swimming Combo Cup.

Rugby claimed four Combo Cup team medals, including two gold, after entering four teams cross the two divisions in three of the five age group categories.

And the club secured medals in all four of their routines with Rugby’s 13-15 years teams’ winning gold in Division One and Division Two.

Rugby’s 12 years and under team claimed bronze in Division One with their 15-18 years team earned bronze in Division Two.

Head Coach Hannah Secher said: “To win the Combo Cup is testament to the whole Club and a really nice way for the Club to be recognised, especially after such a difficult period, I’m really proud.

“To medal across the two divisions and across the age groups is great for our club. It shows that there’s depth and breadth within our programme and recognition across all of those teams, so that’s really good.”

The Combo Cup is a unique annual competition in which teams of up to 10 of the finest young artistic swimmers from 18 clubs across the country showcase their ‘free combination’ performances – with no ‘required’ elements.

And the 13-15 years team Rebecca Harper, Agata Sitko, Natalia Rodriguez, Evelyn Whisker, Lily Van Vleit, Freya Twiss, Jasmine Farr, Poppy Jenkins and Emilia Owen took gold in Division One for their ‘Aladdin’ themed routine.

The 13-15 years team of Tyra Watson, Sophie Henry, Amy Buckley, Imogen Ravenhall, Chloe Barrett-Leafe and Alexa Holland then won gold in Division Two for their ‘Kung Fu Panda’ themed routine, scoring 3.63 points more than the runners-up.

And the 12 years and under team of Harriet Humphrey, Beatrice Banks, Laura Oddy, Alice Pavlova, Daisy Jenkins, Daisy Clark, Darcey Townsend, Isobel Byrne and Hannah Minor took bronze in Division One for their American medley routine.

Completing the medal haul with another bronze in Division Two were the 15-18 years team of Edith John, Gabriella Ravenhall, Jagoda Czuplak, Ariane Sargent, Mia Timothy, Sophie Lowe, Lola Marsay, Jessica Barrett-Leafe and Hattie McMillan for their ‘Dream Girls’ medley routine.

Rugby’s combined efforts throughout the competition saw the club crowned Combo Cup champions with 28 points having previously been runners-up in 2019.

The event was held virtually for the first time on 17 December last year having last been held in person in 2019.

And the event marks the culmination of Swim England’s series of virtual artistic swimming competitions in 2021 with Rugby medalling in most of the categories having entered all of the events.

After a well-deserved rest, it is straight back into the pool in January for the swimmers who are looking forward to defending their titles in 2022 and hopefully returning to face-to-face competition for this event since 2019.
