THE STRUGGLE continues for Coventry & North Warwickshire in the Midland League Division One after they slipped to a fourth defeat at home to Loughborough Town.
Despite making positive start by taking an early lead, the home side slipped to a 4-2 defeat on Saturday and remain second from bottom in the table.
Coventry were hoping to overturn a string of one-goal defeats but they came up against a determined Loughborough side who are gunning for promotion this season.
So it was important for the hosts to make a positive start and they did just that with Austin Pritchard hitting a pinpoint pass to Sam Clarke who directed home the opening goal.
However after some clumsy play when the ball should have cleared, Loughborough easily scored the equaliser 20 minutes later.
The goal frame came to the visitors’ rescue following a great move by Coventry but it was a clever short corner routine which undid them shortly before half time to put the visitors 2-1 in front.
Five minutes into the second half, Luke Reynolds hit a long ball to Ed Benfield who controlled it well and hit a screamer into the roof of the goal to put Coventry back on level terms.
Adam Merrell kept Coventry in the game with his usual immaculate display by closing down Loughborough attackers in the area.
But while Coventry were a player short, Loughborough hit two good goals in two minutes and the hosts were unable to get back into the game in the final ten minutes.
