CRICKET: STANDARD 1st XI fell to a heavy defeat against Warwickshire Cricket League Premier Division leader Olton and West Warwickshire on Saturday following a heavy batting collapse.
Olton won the toss and put Standard CC into bat on a wet wicket which was likely to favour the bowlers.
And that proved to be the case as a middle order collapse put pay to any chance of Standard picking up home points.
The home side were bowled out for just 86 runs – Olton’s left arm spinner claiming six wickets for just 20 runs.
With heavy showers around, Olton wasted no time in chasing down the small target in just 12 overs – losing four wickets.
2ND XI
Elsewhere the 2nd XI took part in a rain affected match against Thimblemill in the Warwickshire Cricket League Division Six.
Batting first, Thimblemill posted 173 all out from 43 overs.
Helped by contributions form Irfan Khaled (34) and a late order batsman (43*), Thimblemill posted a reasonable score while Andrew Fox starred in the bowling department with four wickets for 26 runs.
With overs reduced to just 21 because of interruptions, Standard CC could not consider chasing the overall total but reaching 82 without getting bowled out would secure a winning draw.
A thrilling end saw Thimblewood take nine wickets – just short of outright victory with Standard securing the winning draw points reaching 86/9.
