CRICKET: HAMPTON and Solihull were in action against Standard CC of Coventry on Saturday in overcast and blustery conditions.
Visiting skipper Ryan Leybourne won the toss and opted for his Standard team to bat first.
Ash Howard provided two early breakthroughs as he had Liam Windridge (12) and Andy Jones (0) adjudged LBW.
Thomas Kidd provided some impetus with a run-a-ball 22 before he was run out by Tim Keyte, leaving Standard 67/3.
Steve Vaughan joined his skipper at the crease, and together the pair added 110.
With wickets in hand, the middle order chanced their arm as Jason Fox hit 58* off 32 balls, Rob Jones 28 off 14 and Mitch Leybourne 14 off 11, to give Standard an imposing total of 280/6.
Hampton and Solihull’s reply started promisingly as Mark James (23) and Dan Christopher (31) put on 50 for the first wicket.
Johangir Khan’s batting (26) took the home side to 104/2.
However that was as good as it got for the home side as Minesh Patel ripped through the middle order in picking up five wickets for 36 runs – reducing H&S to 141/9.
