COVENTRY Rugby have launched a women and girls development programme in a bid to grow the female game across the region.
The scheme will launch in August this year and will focus on players in the Coventry and Warwickshire region.
A dedicated under-12 to under-14 performance camp will mark the beginning of the new pathway.
And from September, half-termly development days for year 10 and 11 girls will take place throughout the academic year.
Coventry have appointed Scotland international scrum-half Caity Mattinson as the club’s women and girls ambassador.
She will lead the delivery of the performance camps and development days, playing a central role in the development of the programme.
Mattinson said: “I’m really excited to be joining Coventry Rugby at such a pivotal time for the women’s game.
“The chance to help shape and grow a new female pathway – right from its early stages – is something I feel genuinely passionate about.
“I’m looking forward to working with the next generation of players in the region and can’t wait to get started.”
Coventry do not currently have a professional women’s team linked to the club.
From September 2025, the club will begin recruiting players into a newly-formed Sixth Form women and girls rugby partnership for the start of the 2026/27 season.
The club also has plans to launch a women’s BUCS programme in 2027 to start in the 2028/29 campaign through its partnership with UCFB.
