Robins: "Hungry" Sky Blues have the appetite for Championship survival

THE HUNGER of Coventry City to battle their way to a crucial three points in the fight for Championship survival was the biggest factor in Easter Monday’s victory over Bristol City – says manager Mark Robins.

An 87th-minute strike from Viktor Gyokeres put the seal on the 3-1 win at St Andrew’s following goals from Leo Skiri Ostigard and Matty Godden either side of the break – the visitors’ Nakhi Wells initially threatening to set up a nervy finale when halving the deficit with 11 minutes to play.

In a victory that sends Coventry seven points above the drop zone, testament was paid by the City boss to his battling Sky Blues.

“They’ve not played brilliant football at times and it’s been a scrap, but I’m happy for that scrap, I’m happy that they’ve performed the way they have done and fought for a really good victory,” said the 51-year-old.

“The character was there, that’s what it was all about.

“They’ve shown that they want to stay in the division, and more than that, they want to do it in a good way as we’ve scored three goals – the experience in the team paid dividends.”

A much tougher test will no doubt await Coventry next time out, when Robins’ men head to play-off chasing Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday.
