FOOTBALL: MAN of the match Kyel Reid got high praise by manager Mark Robins after producing one of his best performances in a Sky Blues shirt during thee 2-1 victory over Port Vale.
Reid scored a stunning volley and Kwame Thomas bagged his third goal for the club as the Sky Blues beat fellow League One strugglers Port Vale to record only their sixth win of the season.
Speaking post match, Robins said: “Kyel Reid has come in and had a blistering performance, long may that continue.
“He’s quick, lively and tricky. A really good performance from him, and I thought the midfield and back line made sure we were compact. It didn’t get too ragged and we dealt with the big lad up front.
“It was more cohesive, much better. The lads worked hard and grafted for the three points, two well taken goals.”
Despite claiming his first win since returning for a second win as manager following three consecutive defeat, Robins is not getting too carried away by the result and is demanding a repeat performance on Saturday at home to Bristol Rovers.
He added: “It gives us a bit of confidence going into Saturday. There are a lot of things to work on, but you take small steps.
“I don’t think there is a lack of passion and pride, it is fear and they have overcome that tonight to a certain extent.
“They all worked hard, and pressed when we needed to, we didn’t get too stretched or open and forced them to go over the top.
“We aren’t getting carried away, it is just three points. The crowd are desperate to get behind us. There wasn’t a lot of preparation time between Saturday and tonight but I’m pleased with the reaction.”
