FOOTBALL: COVENTRY Sphinx start their Midland Football League Premier Division campaign on Saturday with an away trip to Haughmond.
Based in Shrewsbury, Haughmond have made rapid progress up the non-league pyramid in recent years after joining the West Midlands Regional League from the Shropshire League in 2012.
They made an immediate impact, winning the WMRL Division Two.
It didn’t take them long to secure another promotion – and as a result they took their place in the WMRL Premier Division for the 2014/15 season.
Last season they won that division – earning an impressive 99 points. And now they are set to start their first season in the MFL Premier Division.
Sphinx will have to be on their best defensive form after Haughmond started their competitive season last weekend with a 3-2 win at Wolverhampton Sporting in the FA Cup.
A top ten finish in last season’s Midland Premier League will be hoped to be matched this season for Sphinx.
Saturday’s game kicks off at 3pm at Shrewsbury Sports Village.
