PREVIEW: Sky Blues host Boreham Wood at home for a spot in the FA Cup third round hat

FOOTBALL: COVENTRY City will be aiming to book their spot in the third round of the FA Cup on Sunday when facing Boreham Wood at home on Sunday (2pm).

Mark Robins’ men defeated Maidenhead United in the opening round of the competition last month, largely thanks to an impressive brace from teenage striker Jordan Ponticelli.

But Sunday’s opposition can claim to pose a genuine threat to the Sky Blues after they knocked out Blackpool in the first round.

Placed seventh in the National League having secured 35 points from 22 games, Boreham Wood are very much promotion candidates to make the step up into the Football League next season.

And Robins is more than aware of the threat Wood will present.

He said: “We need to make sure we do not slip on a banana skin.

“They (Boreham Wood) have got a lot of players with league experience and some decent footballers.

“I have read the comments of their chairman and they are all excited by it.”

Former City man Blair Turgott guided Boreham Wood to the second round after scoring the winner against Blackpool.

And Robins admitted Turgott is the danger man.

“Turgott stands out because he scored the winner last time,” said Robins.

“Shaun Jeffers is another one who used to be here.

“Bruno Andrade is another one and Angelo Balanta has been good coming off the bench too at times.

“The key for me is to make sure we attack.

“There were a lot of good things in the game on Saturday and we want to start on the right foot.”
