RUGBY LEAGUE: STILL frustrated by their agonising defeat to Gloucester All Golds the week previous, Coventry Bears entertained London Skolars at the Butts Park Arena on Sunday.
Skolars entered Sunday’s game on the back of a thumping 66-0 victory against Oxford.
But they were to face a stiffer challenge against Bears, who immediately took the lead through Kieren Sherratt who scored on the left wing following two smart plays to retain possession.
The Bears continued to attack with Jamahl Hunte looking particularly dangerous.
Following a high tackle, Bears’ Chris Barratt was sinbinned, and the Skolars took advantage of the penalty with Michael Sykes crossing over and Jy-Mel Coleman converting to put the score at 4-6.
Unphased, Bears responded with a clever offload by Matt Reid in his own half allowed Hayden Freeman to gain significant ground.
Freeman’s run sent Mikey Russel over the line while Delaney made no mistake in converting.
Two tries for Skolars – courtesy of Michael Bishay and Dave Williams – put London ahead though at half time.
The visitors dominance continued in the second half as they scored three tries in the opening 15 minutes of play in the second half.
Jason Bass added a third Bears try after, but it was too little too late as Jermayne Coleman added the first of more tries for London to put the game beyond doubt.
Skolars won 50-14.
The hooter sounded, with the Bears needing to focus on their defence before they play again in two weeks time.
