PREPARATIONS for next season’s cyclo cross season are taking shape for Phil Blacker after he showed good form to win the Stourport-on-Seven Circuit Race.

Blacker broke clear of his rivals on the purpose built circuit early in the race and soon left his closest rival to claim the win.

The week before Blacker had finished second on the same circuit and is looking in good shape for the new season which gets under way in September.

Elsewhere, youngster Jonathan Wears missed out on a podium place after finishing fifth in the Holm Valley 25-mile Time Trial in Yorkshire.

Wears finished just a few second behind the third-placed rider in a time of 55 minutes and 46 seconds which was an excellent time despite the windy conditions.

M.I.Racing’s Stephanie Peters is making big improvements each time she competes and this time around she finished as the third fastest lady in the Stafford Hilly 23-mile Time Trial.

Peter Smith continues to dominate the Milton Keynes Evening Series following another runner-up position which keeps him in top spot.

And Peter Busby is now firmly established as one of the leading veteran riders in the Midlands with an impressive list of top performances to his credit.

Busby finished 11th in the British National series event at Builth Well in Wales, while team mate Tim Stowe crossed the finish line 15th place and a rare appearance by World Masters Cyclo Cross Champion Phil Roach saw him finish a very creditable 25th.

Coventry-based M.I.Racing have confirmed that over 60 entries have been received for the Battle of Edge Hill road race on June 28.

The 96-mile race attracts riders from all aver the UK and carries a prize list of over £2,000.
