A STUNNING downfall by Barby – largely inflicted by a Mathew Nobes five-for – helped Coventry & North Warwickshire romp to a scintillating ten-wicket win to maintain their Warwickshire League Premier Division title challenge.
After Barby were dismissed for just 52 runs in the 28th over, the Binley Road hosts then needed just 28 runs as Nobes (34, no) and Marco Higgins (18, no) swept to victory with ten boundaries and one six scored between them.
While the visitors lost both opener Richard Tarrant (2) and number three Joe Bramley (3) to Sameer Vohra’s (2-11) deliveries, the presence of leading man Alex Watson (36) gave Barby hope of grinding their way to a respectable score after their shaky start.
But once their talisman was lost at 47-3, the first victim claimed by Nobes (5-13), the rot quickly set in with the away side then only scoring five more runs as Barby’s innings went up in flames – George Neal also getting in on the act with two wickets for three runs conceded.
As the hosts’ opening pair smashed their way to victory in ruthless fashion, third-placed C&W will head to Bablake, ninth, on Saturday confident of keeping up the pressure on leaders Stratford-upon and nearest challengers Walmley.
