LIVE: Time running out for Coventry City to land striker and central midfielder

TIME is running out for the Sky Blues to bring in a striker or a central midfielder to help the crucial quest for goals – with the transfer deadline looming at 11pm tonight.

Scoring goals has been a problem throughout a relation-threatening season so far – despite a Checkatrade Trophy semi-final – with Coventry City rooted to the bottom of League One, eight points from safety with a game in hand.

As we reported this morning, club sources confirmed boss Russell Slade was hoping to close in today on one central midfielder and a striker.

Club sources told us today that he would resort to a plan B and potentially other alternatives options, should those players not be secured.

While anything could happen in the coming hours, we understand no incoming players have yet been secured, as of 5pm.

We revealed earlier a third offer from Rotherham United was rejected this afternoon for 22-year-old club captain Jordan Willis.

This was contrary to speculation the Sky Blues had accepted a third offer yesterday, and that the player had failed to agree terms with the Yorkshire club.

Coventry City sources described that speculation as completely false.

Sky Blues sources told us mid-afternoon that Rotherham had not met their valuation for the player, hence the third bid was rejected.

It is not known if the Championship club have upped their offer, or will do tonight.

Two Brentford offers for 19-year-old midfielder Ben Stevenson of £500,000 and £750,000 were rejected earlier this month.

As of this afternoon, our Coventry City sources said the west London side had not come back in for the Sky Blues academy graduate.

Neither had Wolves come back in this afternoon for young defender Ryan Haynes, after we revealed the club rejected a bid yesterday from the Championship club.

A we reported earlier, the club has also this afternoon dismissed speculation as ‘completely false’ that they had received an offer for Ruben Lameiras.

As we revealed earlier, Willis was in training at Ryton as normal this morning.

Rotherham boss Paul Warne told the club’s website today:

“All the staff have been in all day, we have made numerous phone calls as you can imagine,” Warne told

“I think we have couple of options, and I am hopeful of adding a couple of bodies before the 11pm deadline.

“Things are looking promising but as I have seen over the past few weeks, things can sometimes do a 360. With any luck the two main targets that I have today will be done by the close of play.”
