FOOTBALL: COVENTRY United came from behind to earn a point at Walsall Wood on Saturday in the Midland League Premier Division.
Lewis Ison’s second half strike cancelled out Joey Butlin’s first half opener at Lichfield Road as the game finished 1-1, although the home side had goalkeeper Adam Jenkins to thank for keeping them in the match.
Joshua O’Grady struck the Walsall Wood crossbar from 25 yards out in the 24th minute and soon after Jean Dakouri fired wide when he perhaps should have done better.
At the other end Charlie Shaw stabbed the ball wide at the far post before home skipper Butlin raced into the area and beat Richard Morris with a low finish to give Walsall Wood a one-goal advantage at the break.
In the second half the hosts pushed for a second goal as they returned with real purpose and could have been awarded a penalty when Pierre Moudime seemed to commit a foul on opponent but the referee waved play on.
Just minutes later United forced the equaliser when Kevin Thornton delivered from the corner and Ison was able to head the ball home in the 50th minute.
O’Grady, Kai Williams and Courtney Cameron were all denied by an inspired Jenkins but the scoreline remained 1-1 at the final whistle.
This Saturday Coventry United are in league action again when they host Shepshed Dynamo at Sphinx Drive.
