"Impressive" Caulfield boosts Wasps' options

Coventry Editorial 1st Dec, 2020   0

SECOND-ROW Josh Caulfield has been acquired by Wasps on a short-term loan deal from Greene King IPA Championship outfit Cornish Pirates.

The 23-year-old has been brought in from the second tier to add depth to the ranks of the Ricoh Arena club, in light of recent injury troubles combined with a number of players missing on international duty.

Former England under-20 international Caulfield has racked up 71 appearances over the course of four seasons for the Pirates, during which time he was dual-registered with Gallagher Premiership champions Exeter Chiefs until his permanent transfer in May.

Speaking on the move, Wasps head coach Lee Blackett expressed the importance of the deal.

“With some players unavailable to us, we needed to bring some much-needed cover for the second-row and back-row positions,” he said.

“Josh has been an impressive operator in the Championship for a number of seasons now and we look forward to welcoming him to the club.”
