A FIVE-STAR display from Coventry United in last weekend’s 5-2 thrashing of Crystal Palace has given manager Jay Bradford all of the extra incentive needed to seek a third successive win in Sunday’s FA Women’s Championship finale.

The Red and Greens go up against second-placed Durham this weekend, knowing that with safety already secured, they could rise as high as eighth with a victory.

Buoyed by a high-scoring triumph over the Eagles last time out, in which braces from Katy Morris and Helen Dermody, plus an Amy Wathan strike, put ten-man Palace to the sword, Bradford is keen to bow out in style.

“We haven’t exactly been free-flowing in front of goal and that’s been no secret this season, so to win in that style and score that amount – I’m really pleased,” she said.

“There’s still moments where we need to tidy up, when we’re a little bit slippy in possession at times, but for me the red card changed the game.

“We had the ability to recognise that and really punish and stretch them, to make those wider passes and get them into the channels where they [Crystal Palace] don’t want to be.

“We’re here to win, whether we’re safe or not, and I think this result showed that.

“I want people to enjoy it now, there are players that are going to be moving on, so I want them to really enjoy their time here and finish on a high.”
