JONATHAN Panzo scored an unlikely brace on his first outing for the Sky Blues as Coventry eased to a 2-0 pre-season win against Oxford United.
The defender, who signed on a season-long loan from Nottingham Forest last week, marked his first City appearance with a goal in either half at the Kassam Stadium.
And the result means City have won all three of the opening pre-season matches after previous victories against Leamington and Nottingham Forest.
The Sky Blues almost made the perfect start when a clearance came back off Matty Godden who was unlucky to see the ball travel wide of the posts.
Oxford hit the post at the other end through Jerome Sinclair before Godden had an effort cleared off the line and Jake Bidwell lashed an shot inches wide.
And City eventually got their reward on the half-hour mark when Panzo headed past Simon Eastwood at the back post from a well-worked set piece between Gus Hamer and Jamie Allen.
The Sky Blues almost doubled their lead after the break when Viktor Gyokeres’ deflected effort was clawed off the line by Eastwood.
However, City wrapped up the game on the hour mark when Panzo rose highest to head home Hamer’s corner.
The Sky Blues are next in action away at League Two side Walsall on Tuesday, July 19 with kick-off at 7.30pm at the Poundland Bescot Stadium.
