COVENTRY United Women have been relegated from the Barclays Women’s Championship after they were held to a 1-1 draw at Lewes and other results went against them.
The club’s draw with Lewes, coupled with Sheffield United’s shock win against league leaders Bristol City, confirmed Coventry’s relegation to the Women’s National League.
Lee Burch’s side have picked up just seven points from 19 matches this season with three games left to play.
Lewes took the lead against the run of play on 10 minutes when Amber-Keegan Stobbs slotted the ball past Khiara Keating.
However, Coventry deservedly drew level on 33 minutes when Isobel Goodwin was played through on goal and coolly finished beyond Sophie Whitehouse in the Lewes goal.
Despite an impressive display at the Dripping Pan, Coventry were unable to find a winner with their relegation to the third tier of women’s football confirmed.
