COVENTRY UNITED LADIES suffered another blow in their fight for survival after they were swept aside 3-0 by league leaders Liverpool at Prenton Park.
The league’s top scorer Leanne Kiernan scored twice after Taylor Hinds opened the scoring to ensure for another miserable afternoon for Jay Bradford’s side.
And the result means United remain rooted to the foot of the Women’s Championship table, 11 points behind closest rivals Watford with eight matches left to play.
Liverpool broke the deadlock on 13 minutes when Hinds scored a spectacular goal from 25-yards out to leave Red and Greens stopper Olivia Clark with no chance.
Coventry were a threat from aerial balls and came close to finding a leveller only for Leighanne Robe to make a fine clearing header to snuff out the danger.
However, the home side doubled their lead on 38 minutes when Kiernan blasted an effort past Clark after being released by Yana Daniels’ sublime flick.
And Kiernan trebled Liverpool’s lead on the stroke of half-time with a firm header from Daniels’ cross from the left to all but seal Coventry’s fate.
The Reds nearly made it four in first-half injury-time when Rhiannon Roberts’s cross-shot hit the post before Kiernan failed to turn home the rebound.
And Clark made a stunning save in the second half to deny Kiernan her hat-trick goal, saving the striker’s diving header at point-blank range.
The Red and Greens are next in action at home to Charlton Athletic on Sunday, February 13 with kick-off at 2pm at Butts Park Arena.
