COVENTRY CITY’s play-off hopes were dented after the Sky Blues were beaten 3-1 at Swansea City.
Gus Hamer scored a late consolation for City after Michael Obafemi’s brace and Jamie Paterson’s opener had put the hosts in command at the Swansea.com Stadium.
The results means Coventry drop to 11th in the Sky Bet Championship table, four points away from the play-off places.
And Swansea took the lead on 12 minutes when Paterson opened the scoring, just as he did in the reverse fixture, with a well-taken shot into the bottom right corner from Obafemi’s touch.
The home side doubled their lead on 40 minutes when Obafemi slipped an effort underneath Sky Blues goalkeeper Simon Moore having been played through by Flynn Downes.
However, Coventry should have reduced the deficit before half time when former Swans loanee Viktor Gyokeres hit an effort straight at home goalkeeper Andy Fisher after he ran onto a poor defensive header.
And Swansea wrapped up the points on 48 minutes when Obafemi finished coolly into the bottom right corner past the on-rushing Moore after he was played in-behind the Coventry defence by Matt Grimes.
Mark Robins’ side had chances to score late on with substitute Matty Godden twice denied by Fisher before Hamer finished into the bottom right corner on 84 minutes with a first time effort from the edge of the penalty area.
Coventry are next in action at home to Luton Town tomorrow night (Tuesday, March 8) with kick-off at 7.45pm at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
