COVENTRY City have received a transfer windfall after Viktor Gyokeres finally completed a protracted move to Premier League title hopefuls Arsenal.
Gyokeres has joined the Gunners for an initial fee of £55m (€63m), potentially rising to £63.5m (€73m) in add ons, from Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon.
The Swedish striker left Coventry to join Sporting in a club-record £17.5million (€20m) sale with a further £3.5m (€4m) in potential add-ons in July 2023.
City inserted a 15 per cent sell-on clause as part of the original deal although Sporting paid a fee to Coventry to reduce the clause to 10 per cent.
Coventry will therefore receive 10 per cent of the profit made on the transfer.
Sources in Portugal have confirmed to The Observer, Coventry will receive just over £4.5m (€5.2m) from the deal.
Gyokeres scored a remarkable 97 goals in just 102 appearances for Sporting.
The 27-year-old led Sporting to back-to-back league titles and also won the Portuguese Cup last season.
He will wear the number 14 shirt at Arsenal – a number previously worn by Gunners icon Thierry Henry.
