FOOTBALL - Coventry City appoint Rhys Carr as interim head coach

COVENTRY City have appointed Rhys Carr as the club’s interim head coach after sacking manager Mark Robins.

Carr only joined the Sky Blues as first team coach in July following a revamp of the club’s coaching structure.

The Welshman previously worked as an individual development coach at Wolverhampton Wanderers and as an assistant coach to the Ireland women’s national team.

His appointment comes after the Sky Blues announced the shock sacking of Robins following a 2-1 home defeat against Derby County in midweek which leaves Coventry 17th in the Championship table.

Robins departs City after more than seven years in his second stint with the club which included two promotions and a memorable FA Cup semi-final appearance last season.

Carr will take charge of Coventry for this weekend’s clash against Sunderland, supported by the club’s existing first team coaching staff.

The club will ‘take its time’ to appoint a permanent head coach.
