AFC Coventry Rangers maintained their impressive start to the season with a 6-0 win against Castle Vale Town as Rory Turnbull and Fola Fagbemi both scored twice.
Turnbull netted twice in the first-half either side of Fagbemi’s first goal to send Rangers into the break with a three-goal cushion.
Ryan Alexander’s solo effort increased the hosts lead before Fagbemi’s second goal and captain Jordan Powell’s late header completed a resounding victory.
The win means Coventry are now six points clear at the top of the Midland Football League Division Three table having now won 11 of their 13 matches this season.
Kev Kingham’s side opened the scoring on six minutes when Turnbull slotted home from close range after Powell nodded Joe Gardner’s free-kick into his path.
Castle Vale’s goalkeeper then made a critical mistake when he miscued a back pass which allowed Fagbemi to poke the ball into an empty net.
Turnbull’s neat finish had Rangers three-nil up at the break with Alexander adding a spectacular fourth goal in the second-half when he beat three players before slotting home.
The impressive Turnbull then provided Fagbemi with a simple finish with a cross from the left for his second of the game before skipper Powell completed the scoring with a diving header from Turnbull’s free-kick.
Coventry boss Kingham said: “The lads played well today, we were a bit sloppy in the first half not taking our chances but came out in the second half and dominated.
“We have two cup games in the next two weeks against higher opposition so we’re looking forward to the challenge.”
Coventry are next in action against current holders Tipton Town on Saturday, November 20 in the second round of the Birmingham County Saturday Vase with kick-off at 3pm at Tipton Sports Academy.
