AFC COVENTRY RANGERS welcomed their biggest ever crowd at they secured an emphatic 5-0 win against local rivals Coventrians to remain top of the table.
A total of 193 supporters were in attendance and were treated to an entertaining game at the Coventry Technical Rugby Club as Connoll Farrell bagged a hat-trick.
Both teams shared chances in the opening 20 minutes with Rangers goalkeeper Dave Allen making two important saves to keep the scores level.
And after the Coventrians keeper had made six saves of his own, the home side eventually broke the deadlock.
Jordan Powell slotted home with a captain’s finish on the half hour mark after good work from Jean Patrik Silva Gomes
And the Rangers skipper doubled his tally on 38 minutes with another fine finish from Farrell’s cross to send the hosts into the break with a two-nil lead.
Farrell would go on to score a hat-trick in the second period, adding to Coventry’s lead in the 49th minute from Liam Doyle’s square pass despite appeals for offside.
And the duo combined again on the hour mark to score a carbon copy of Rangers’ third goal before Farrell completed his treble on 89 minutes with a stunning solo effort.
The result means Coventry are now six points clear at the top of the Midland Football League Division Three table.
Rangers manager Kev Kingham said: “Our defence were superb today and won everything thrown at them.
“Both teams weren’t at their best but it was a very good game to watch it had everything a derby should have.
“We have lost Joe Gardner due to injury, he was taken away by ambulance but released later that evening.
“What a crowd to come and support us, it was great to see and that’s why we formed our own club.
“As I’ve been so much this season really proud if the lads as we continue to keep working hard and win as many games as we can.”
