EXCLUSIVE - Wilson-Bent insists 'I've got to win' ahead of Denny rematch

COVENTRY’s River Wilson-Bent insists he has to win ahead of his rematch with British foe Tyler Denny at BOXXER’s Breakthrough event in his hometown this weekend..

The pair fought to a controversial draw in their first bout at the Skydome Arena back in November and meet again at the same venue on Saturday.

And once again the vacant English Middleweight title is up for grabs after their previous fight was stopped in the seventh round due to an apparent clash of heads with the judges scoring it a draw.

The 28-year-old (12-0-1, 5 KO’s) has picked up two wins since his first bout with Denny and feels a change in mentality should give him the edge in the rematch.

Wilson-Bent said: “I’ve got to win, this is a 100 per cent win for me, I know I’m going to win.

“I’ve changed in myself and my mentality – the main thing is being very calm and collected.

“When I entered into the fight last time, it was very push and I was very angry, he taught me a lesson just to relax.

“It would be wicked [to win an English title] for me, my family, my friends and Coventry City.”

And Wilson-Bent hopes that winning the English title will act as a stepping stone on his way to bigger and better things with the British title his next ambition.

Wilson-Bent added: “Preparations have been tough, everybody keeps saying that camps are perfect but this camp has been really hard, we’ve been grinding day and night.

“It makes me sharper [previous wins], my wits are all with me, I’ve been there and I’ve felt those feeling, there’s no ring rust.

“I want to win this English title and then push on to the British title, that’s the main goal.

“Bring the noise!”

Wilson-Bent fights Denny on Saturday, June 25 at the Skydome Arena as part of BOXXER’s Breakthrough event.
