EXPERIENCED England international Natalie Haythornthwaite is the latest big name to join the new Wasps Netball revolution for its debut season in the Netball Superleague.
The 24-year-old was named the competition’s 2015 Superleague Player of the Year and becomes Tamsin Greenway’s ninth signing for the 2017 season, which starts in February.
Haythornthwaite, can play at wing attack or goal attack, was an ever-present for Manchester Thunder last season after joining them from the Yorkshire Jets.
She has also played for the senior national team over the last three years after impressing during her time with the England Under-23s.
“Natalie has become a key part of the national side recently, so we’re thrilled to secure the services of a player of her calibre,” said Wasps’ Director of Netball Greenway.
“We believe Natalie will give us a competitive attacking advantage on court, as she can play in the mid court and shooting circle, she is such a creative player and I have wanted to work with her for a long time.
“The quality and experience we have added to the squad so far shows we are aiming to hit the ground running with positive results.”
Other signings made so far this season include attacking sensation George Fisher, Lucy Harris, and one of the best defenders in the league, Australian Samantha May.
The move to Wasps was a difficult decision for Haythornthwaite but she is excited by the new opportunity ahead.
She added: “I am tremendously excited to begin this new opportunity with Wasps Netball.
“I’m really looking forward to seeing what Tamsin has in store for us all and getting to work with the girls. I’m excited to put on the Wasps Netball dress and see what we can achieve together this season.”
Registration is now open to trial to be part of the Wasps Netball’s training squad. A club forum will be taking place on September 11 where players, clubs and fans can find out more about Wasps Netball.
