Defeat for struggling Alvis at home to Bolehall Swifts

A MUCH improved performance by Alvis saw them put up a fight against Bolehall Swifts but they were beaten by two clear goals by the Midland Premier Division One title contenders.

Two goals within a minute on 35 minutes unlocked the sterling efforts of the Green Lane men’s defence to enhance the Staffordshire side’s promotion ambitions.

A right wing cross was converted by Dave Yonwin for the opener and moments later Tom Lapworth fired home a second from just outside the penalty area.

Despite being two goals down Alvis continued to compete in a determined fashion but lacked the creativity to prize open the visitors’ rearguard.

And on the positive side however, there were commanding displays by central defenders Paola Razza and Arron Cheshire who were ably assisted by a solid goalkeeping display by Tom Damon-Byce.

Alvis remain

This Saturday Alvis Sporting entertain Studley at Southam while Coventry Copsewood host Atherstone Town.

In the Premier Division, Sphinx slumped to a 5-0 hammering away at Shepshed Dynamo.

Daniel Chapman handed the home side a narrow 1-0 lead at the break but four unanswered second half goals from James Brooks, Stephen Towers, Brett Darby and Jon Stevenson wrapped up a comfortable win for Shepshed.

Sphinx remain 12th in the league table ahead of this Saturday’s home clash against Basford United.
