COVENTRY United suffered a second successive loss at Butts Park Arena on Wednesday night, after they were downed 1-0 by a resurgent Highgate United.
The result sees the Gate leapfrog Coventry and Lye Town into 13th placed in the MFL Premier Division, keeping three clean sheets in the process.
Lei Brown continued his excellent goal scoring form within the opening minutes of the game, when Corey Currithers’ pile-driver rebounded off the bar and into Brown to head home the rebound on three minutes.
Coventry pressed the visitors in search of an equaliser, but were unable to find a way past keeper Aaron Brown, whilst opposite number and former Highgate custodian Brendon Bunn tipped over Brown’s header.
Brown almost had a second, when Bunn rushed out of his goal the Highgate forward sending his shot at goal, forced it wide of the net.
Gate had to dig in deep after a late rally, but they ran out deserved winners in Coventry.
Coventry look to pick themselves up tomorrow (Saturday) when they head to Boldmere St Michaels at the Trevor Brown Memorial Ground (3pm), before hosting Dunkirk on Wednesday (7:45pm).
