COVENTRY & North Warwickshire took the honours against visitors Bablake in last weekend’s Warwickshire League Premier Division derby with a scintillating 85-run victory at Binley Road.
Big-hitting from Mathew Nobes (60) and Raag Kapur (57) led Coventry to 228-8 before their rivals were skittled out for 143 in 38 overs.
With Kapur starring in the home side’s bowling line-up with a four-wicket haul, Coventry ran out deserving winners.
Rory Curran (3-33) was the standout bowler for Bablake during the Coventry innings, taking a key wicket in the form of Marco Higgins (40) to prevent the hosts’ tally becoming even greater after Nobes and Kapur caused most of the damage.
But the lack of a big-hitting scorer for Bablake in their reply proved costly. Tom Yardley top-scored with 25 on an afternoon when Kapur ran amok to work his way through the visitors’ middle order with 4-34.
On Saturday, Coventry, who sit third in the table, visit Attock, while eighth-placed Bablake head to strugglers Rugby.
