FOOTBALL: PROMOTION joy from last season was quickly cut short for Coventry Alvis on Saturday as they lost by three goals to nil at Stafford Town.
Alvis, promoted to Division One of the Midland League for this season, were stopped in their tracks as a pair of headed goals from Matthew Bartlett and David Wilcock plus a later Jasper Johns free-kick denied any opening day celebrations.
The visiting side enjoyed their fair share of possession, but lacked shots on target to trouble Stafford’s back four.
Alvis manager Damian Cassidy said: “We created chances. But unlike Stafford Town – who were clinical in their finishing – we will need to improve in front of goal.”
Coventry Alvis are next in action on Saturday afternoon when they host Lichfield City.
