BRINKLOW’s under-14s extended their unbeaten run to six games on Sunday, after Ryan Prior’s hat-trick helped see off third-placed Southam 3-1 in the Coventry & Warwickshire Youth League U14 Division D.
After losing out 3-2 in the previous tie in February, Brinklow served up the best dose of revenge in their convincing victory at the weekend.
Bradlee Durston was effective for the hosts and was kept busy in defence, being forced into making several early blocks.
But eventually, a through ball from Dan Frodsham was perfectly weighted to send Prior through – who then proceeded to put Brinklow ahead.
A Southam free-kick was smashed into the net however, levelling things up just moments after Prior’s opener, but it only served to spur the hosts on to chase a second.
Kye Gilbey was a livewire for Brinklow, and it was his trickery that won the free-kick from which the second go-ahead goal came.
Prior whipped the ball into the area, which evaded both the defence and the keeper to sneak into the net.
In the second-half, and with a tactical change forming a midfield four of Arjun-Veer Singh Sembi, Matty Natawidjaja, Dan Harrison and Harry Shorten proving effective, Brinklow endeavoured to dominate the game.
Brinklow had a two-goal cushion and effectively sealed the game when Prior’s mazy run past four players and finish to match increased the hosts advantage, who comfortably saw out the remainder of the game to close the gap on Southam.
Next up is a trip to Rugby Town Juniors Cougars on Sunday (11am), going into the final two games of the league campaign.
