DYLAN CHEEMA extended his unbeaten record with a hard-fought points win over Stu Greener after River Wilson-Bent lost a split decision to Tyler Denny in an action-packed night at the Skydome Arena.
Cheema, from Tile Hill, relished another opportunity to fight in front of a home crowd but was made to work harder than anticipated by journeyman fighter Greener.
‘The Natural’ eventually extended his professional record to 6-0, winning by three rounds to one in the four-round bout, as both boxers exchanged heavy punches throughout.
The decision was met by huge cheers from the home support inside the Skydome with Cheema having won the BOXXER Series lightweight event in sensational style back in April at the same venue.
However, Cheema’s victory came after fellow hometown fighter Wilson-Bent was beaten in another close fight with British rival Tyler Denny as he missed out on the chance to claim the English middleweight title.
Wilson-Bent and Denny fought to a controversial draw in November last year and were closely matched again in a thriller as the former boxed at range and the latter applied constant pressure.
And despite Wilson-Bent winning 96-94 on one of the scorecards, the other two judges scored the contest 97-93 and 96-93 in favour of Denny.
The defeat means Wilson-Bent now has a 12-1-1 professional record having suffered the first defeat of his career in the pro ranks.
