COVENTRY Godiva Harriers AC runner Julie Emmerson won the Ladies race at the second meeting of the Midland Women’s Cross Country League.

Emmerson broke away from the pack to win in a time of 21 minutes and 35 seconds with fellow Godiva A runners all finishing in the top 15 in Northampton.

Amelia Starling came home in eighth with Penny Oliver 11th and Sammy Puri 15th – in blinding sunlight – as the ladies finished second overall on the day to move into the third and final promotion place in Division Two.

The men’s team were led home by Matt Battley in 30th with Joe McLeod in 67th, Jamie Hnatushka 70th, Clark Roberts 80th, Damien Chamberfort 86th and Philip Gould in 119th to complete the A team finishers.

And those results mean the men’s team finished 11th overall on the day to sit 10th in the standings after two fixtures in the Birmingham and District Invitation Cross Country League.

The women’s B team also impressed in Northampton as Ali Garton came home in 24th with Eleanor Crossland 37th, Jayne Mumford 43rd and Sophia Charters 47th to place fifth overall whilst debutant Flavie Rasson finished 121st.

Elsewhere, Sam Marshall led the men’s B team home in 123rd with Ben Tran 143rd, Daniel Dalton 148th, Pete Eccleston 153rd, Jason Brotherhood 158th and Matt Hadlum 159th which secured fifth place overall after the opening two races.

Also completing the course were: Michael Todd 174th, John Treadwell 184th, Jose Gonzalez 187th, Daniel Gaggini 189th (37th Junior), Samuel Devlin 192nd (38th Junior), Nick Bennett 193rd and Michael Katsolis 199th.

Finishing just outside the top 200 were: debutant Joe Charlmers in 204th, Isreal Sanchez 211th, Simon Clarke 215th and completing the Godiva quota was Gary Flude 218th.

Coventry Godiva Harriers return to the track in the new year at the County Championships on Saturday, January 8 with the third league meeting of the season taking place the following weekend.
