COVENTRY Godiva Harriers remain in the promotion places after the third senior Midland Track and Field League meeting of the season in Telford at Telford Athletics Stadium.

Godiva finished fourth on the day, in scorching conditions, to remain second in the table despite being docked 10 points due to a lack of club officials.

Godiva’s Emmanuela Asante enjoyed a fine afternoon in the sprints as she won the 200m A final and 100m B final.

And Samantha Puri excelled despite taking part in several events as she won the 1500m B final and placed second in the 2k steeplechase A final before finishing fourth in the 800m, javelin, discus and 4x400m relay.

Harriers enjoyed more success courtesy of Naomi Jones who won the long jump A final and finished second in the 200m B final.

There was double success for both Francessca Rivers and Yasmin Henlon who won the triple jump and high jump events in the A and B finals respectively.

And Cheuk Yan Lam won the women’s javelin A final whilst securing third in the shot put A final having placed fourth in the discus and sixth in the hammer.

Godiva’s Sam Marshall won the men’s 800m B final and would go on to finish fourth in the 3k race and sixth in the discus.

Alex Farquharson claimed victory in the men’s long jump A final whilst Joseph Gilkes won the men’s long jump B final and placed fourth in the 110m hurdles A final.

Lastly, Andrejs Virsics finished second in both the hammer A final and shot put A final to round off a fine afternoon’s work for the Coventry club.

The hot conditions made for a difficult afternoon for the athletes with the 5k race reduced to 3k as temperatures went beyond 30 degrees Celsius.

The club have asked if anyone is able to help them out at the next fixture in Stoke-on-Trent and can contact them via their Facebook page HERE
