ATHLETICS - Coventry Godiva Harriers athletes win 45 medals at County Championships

COVENTRY Godiva Harriers athletes claimed a staggering 45 medals representing Warwickshire at the County Championships last weekend in Nuneaton at Pingles Stadium.

Highlights included Riordan Maye who won silver in the under-20 110m hurdles to claim Godiva’s first medal of the Championships which set the tone for a successful weekend for the club.

And Imogen Lane took the biggest haul of the weekend as she claimed gold in the shot put and discus along with bronze in the long jump and high jump.

Ella Wilkinson also won gold in the under-15 girls pole vault, setting a new club record in the process, with fellow Godiva Clarissa Young taking silver in the same event.




And Godiva rounded off the weekend in style with a one-two-three in the men’s 1500m as Lucas Bennett took gold, Clark Roberts silver and Joe McLeod bronze.

Godiva also impressed in the hammer as Carol Parker won silver in the senior event whilst Shona Murray took bronze in the under-17 girls event.


And the medals continued to come Godiva’s way in the under-13 girls high jump with Isla Beasley winning gold and Portia Nabney taking silver.

Further medals were won in the discus as Parker won gold to add to her silver in the hammer with Eleanor Barker taking bronze in the under-15 girls event.

And Godiva won gold in both the senior and under-17 girls long jump courtesy of Robyn Ellison and Naomi Jones respectively whilst Isla won silver in the under-13 girls event.

Ella added shot put bronze to her pole vault gold with Beth Murray winning bronze in the under-15 girls 75m hurdles.

Godiva’s Eva Cassidy won gold in the under-17 girls 80m hurdles whilst Isla claimed her third medal of the championships with bronze in the under-13 girls 200m.

The club celebrated a one-two in the under-17 girls 300m as Camiah Bennett won gold and Monica Davidson won silver whilst Sophia Charters won bronze in the senior women’s 400m.

Godiva claimed five medals across the women’s age groups in the 800m as Eleanor took bronze in the under-15 race, Ayesha Bhatti also took bronze in the under-20 race, Krista Bennett won silver in the under-17 race and Penny Oliver won silver in the senior race with Samantha Puri taking bronze.

The last medals on the women’s side went to K Bennett who won gold in the under-17 1500m and Puri who won silver in the senior 1500m event.

And the men claimed an equally impressive medal haul with Rusciano Thomas-Riley winning gold and Ramadan Noah taking silver in the under-17 100m whilst Stephen Baffour won gold in the under-20 race.

Rusciano added 200m gold to his 100m success whilst Baffour also won gold in the 200m with Corey Nealon-Richards taking silver in the under-20 race.

There was a bronze medal for Joel Burroughs in the under-15 300m and gold for Jonathan Knox in the 400m whilst Euan Hill won bronze in the under-17 800m race.

And Roberts also won bronze in the senior 800m race before claiming silver as part of a one-two-three in the aforementioned 1500m event.

Godiva’s Douglas Garnett won bronze in the under-15 1500m race whilst Jamie Hnatushka took bronze in the senior 3k race and Damien Chambefort won gold in the 3000m steeplechase.
