COVENTRY is set to have 148 affordable new homes and community investment with planning approved for development on Elm Fields Farm and work expected to start on site next month.
The development will include 54 homes for affordable rent and 27 for social rent, as well as 50 available for shared ownership and 17 available through rent to buy.
All the homes will have air-source heat pumps installed to reduce energy bills, and 50 per cent of the properties will also have solar panels added.
There will also be electric vehicle charging points to reduce emissions.
Closed timber panels will be transported onto the site where they are assembled to form the walls, reducing the amount of carbon produced by building materials by 25 per cent.
Wildflower meadows and ponds will be added to the development as well as green, public open spaces and play equipment.
Public art will be installed to promote Coventry’s rich history and an apple orchard will be planted.
The scheme will provide improved bus and pedestrian access as well as electric car charging points, cycling routes and travel vouchers for residents.
And housing provider Stonewater will donate £50 for every house built to the Community Forest Trust.
