A SONGWRITER who is tipped for stardom will headline a special gig at Coventry’s FarGo Village ahead of 2022 Independent Venue Week.

Brighton-based folk artist Bess Atwell will head up host ‘New Year, New Music’ – a mini music festival designed to showcase up-and-coming UK acts – tomorrow (Saturday, January 29) before the week gets under way.

As well as receiving airplay on BBC Radio 6 Music and stellar reviews from critics, Bess’s new album Already, Always reached number 13 in The Independent’s top 40 albums of 2021.

The performance, which will feature support from Folkestone-based artist ALMAHATA and an after-party hosted by Block Radio presenter Ellie Ball, will take place inside The Box from 7pm, with tickets on sale now.

There will also be free performances from local acts at Best of the Midlands, presented by The Phoenix Collective and Tulu at Factory from 4pm until 8pm, including appearances from local favourites such as multi-instrumentalist Levi Washington. He headlined Coventry’s 2021 Christmas lights switch-on event.

Other acts include singer-songwriter Caitlin McCarthy, Vince, Tiago Rodrigues, Psygone and Tomboxe.

Kate Walters, FarGo Village’s music programmer, said: “We are delighted to celebrate new music for the year ahead here at FarGo this January – creating a space where incredible Midlands-based artists share the spotlight with some of UK’s most exciting talents.

“Bess had an incredible 2021 and we are privileged that she is joining us as one of a handful of venues on her nationwide tour before she goes on to play at some major festivals in 2022.”
