TRAVELLERS have set up camp outside Coventry Speedway Stadium, owned by Brandon Estates.

The stadium – former home of the Coventry Bees speedway team and CoventryStox – has been the subject of many conversations this year following a multi-party off-track dispute, resulting in the loss of speedway and stock car racing in the city.

Travellers arrived yesterday afternoon, Warwickshire Police has been informed.

A Brandon Estates spokesman claimed metal and structural parts have been stolen.

They added: “The Police have been informed and hopefully they will clear the site.

“It has been noticed that the illegal occupiers are not merely in the car park but have broken in to the stadium itself.

“Brandon Estates Limited are in touch with some members of the local community who have expressed abhorrence at the behaviour of the travellers.

“Some members of the local community have been in touch with representatives of Brandon Estates to express their abhorrence at the illegal behaviour of the travellers.”

A spokeswoman for Warwickshire Police: “I can confirm that police received reports yesterday (Tuesday 6) at approximately 1:38pm that a group of travellers had arrived at the Brandon Speedway stadium. This is being dealt with by the owners of the land.”
