The blaze started around 1.20pm on the first floor of the property in Freeburn Causeway, Canley, and the fire and smoke spread to the rest of the home.

Three fire crews – from Canley and Coventry – attended and had extinguished the flames by 2.15pm.

Everyone who was in the property was out of it before firefighters arrived and were accounted for.

Specialist ventilation equipment to clear the smoke from the home and had to force entry to the neighbouring property to check it had not spread.

Crews remained on the scene until 5,30pm, damping down the area and firefighters retruned at 8.15pm to check there were no ‘hot spots’ which could have led to the fire reigniting.

An ambulance crew, en route to hospital with a patient, came across the fire and stopped to offer aid. Thankfully there were no injuries and the crew continued their journey to hospital.
