Three arrested after string of violent crimes

POLICE investigating a string of violent crimes in Coventry – including robbery, carjacking and burglary – have today (Monday) arrested three men in a series of raids.

The men, aged 18 and 26 from Coventry, and a 28-year-old man from Bedworth, were arrested by officers from Coventry and Force CID at their addresses on suspicion of conspiracy to rob in connection with a number of crimes across the city and surrounding areas.

Detective Chief Inspector Simon Wallis from the force’s priorities team, described the arrests as significant.

He said: “Under the name Operation Blue Steel, police in Coventry are working closely with partner agencies to tackle serious and organised crime in the area.

“This is one of a number of investigations that we are working on.”

So far in 2015, burglary is down by 16 per cent and robbery remains on par with last year – figures officers are keen to reduce with help from partners and community support.

He added: “We will also be targeting those who support people who commit crime or benefit from their spoils.

“If anyone wants to help us lower crime in Coventry by passing us information on persons concerned in crime they can contact us directly on 101 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
