A TEACHER from Coventry is putting in the miles during those cold dark winter nights to prepare for an endurance challenge in the summer for Clic Sargent.
Ian Adshead, 55, has entered the Outlaw, iron-man distance triathlon, in Nottingham in July.
He will be swimming 2.4miles, cycling 112miles and running a 26.2mile marathon.
He has signed up local coach Penny Wilkin of You Can Coaching, to help prepare him for his mammoth feat.
Ian said: “I’ve done an iron-man triathlon before but it was over eight years ago and I don’t think I’ve got fitter with age.
“I also haven’t done a fund-raising event for a while.”
Ian asked friends to nominate charities but they all chose different causes.
Children and cancer were popular choices and so children’s cancer charity Clic Sargent was an obvious choice.
He has just started his training and hopes the thought of collecting cash for such a deserving cause will spur him on during the forthcoming freezing temperatures.
