Suspected burglars allegedly hurl objects and ram police cars in Coventry van chase

SUSPECTED burglars allegedly bombarded pursuing police cars with an engine, a tool box and a lump hammer in an unsuccessful attempt to flee.

West Midlands Police said the men were driving in a suspected stolen transit van filled with goods in Coventry.

The suspects also allegedly hurled an immersion heater and cans of food at oncoming police cars during the high-speed chase.

A spokesperson said: “The van had been recognised by an ANPR camera, having been involved in two crimes in the Warwickshire area.




“It was identified in Sampson Close, Wood End, Coventry, at 11.45am yesterday, (Monday, May 27) and a police pursuit ensued until the van was finally brought to a halt by a stinger in Almond Tree Road at 12.10pm.

“Three men, ages 25, 26 and 29 were arrested and remain in police custody.


“The 29-year-old was arrested on suspicion of two counts of burglary, dangerous driving and failing to stop.

“The 26-year-old was arrested on suspicion of two counts of burglary and criminal damage.

“The 25-year-old was arrested on suspicion of two counts of burglary.”

The West Midlands Police Traffic Twitter account added: “During the pursuit the occupants reverse rammed our police car several times and threw everything at us out the back, including this engine.”
