Support pledged to annual LGBT community event

Coventry Editorial 13th May, 2017   0

SUPPORT has been pledged to an annual event that celebrates the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community.

This year’s Coventry Pride event will be taking place in University Square, city centre, when it returns on June 10 and 11 – with other activities running in Fargo Village.

Coventry Business Improvement District (BID) is backing this year’s celebration alongside official sponsors: Coventry University and the University of Warwick.

Thousands of visitors are expected to pour into the city centre over the weekend as the Coventry Food and Drink Festival will be taking place simultaneously.

Trish Willetts, Coventry BID manager, said it will be wonderful to see the city filled with visitors enjoying events and seeing what Coventry has to offer.

She added: “Coventry Pride has gone from strength to strength since it first started back in 2015.

“It is wonderful that Pride has increased its popularity to the point that it has now spread itself across the city with a whole host of locations.

“We could not be happier to show support for such a wonderful event and we hope that 2017 is the best year ever.

Trish described the upcoming weekend as the perfect chance to show everyone what the city centre and all its businesses have to offer.

The event will entail a whole host of talented musical acts including Coventry bands One Week Stand and The Prophets, along with Feryl, a Lady Gaga tribute act, SKA-Woody, Kristy Gallacher, Rachel Weston and many more.

There will also be also be a special blessing for the marriage of Haley Bridge and Claire Haines in University Square on the Sunday at 4pm.

Paul Desson-Baxter, Trustee of Coventry Pride, said: “The Coventry Pride Trustees are very pleased that Coventry BID has come on board as an official sponsor of this year’s event.

“With the event being held in the city centre for 2017, it seemed fitting that we worked with the BID team.

“Coventry Pride is very much a community event which celebrates the diverse LGBT+ communities of Coventry and the UK and the fact that we have a number of locations across the city centre means that the whole community of Coventry can get involved and enjoy what is on offer.”
