Still time to cook up entry for Coventry and Warwickshire Foodie Awards

Coventry Editorial 5th May, 2022   0

TIME is running out to enter the Coventry and Warwickshire Foodie Awards, which celebrates the best of the local community’s food and drink scene.

Entries for nominations close on May 15, with the awards ceremony at The Box at Fargo Village on June 16.

Those entering will showcase their skills to a judging panel comprised of some of the top names in the industry.

Among the top names on the panel is Paul Foster, a Michelin star winner who has been named in the top 50 UK restaurants in The Good Food Guide.

The second Michelin star winner to be judging the Foodie Awards is Glynn Purnell, who has trained with the likes of Gordon Ramsay, Gary Rhodes and Claude Bosi and owns two restaurants in Birmingham.

He is also a regular on TV’s Saturday Kitchen.

The judges will be deciding the winners of several categories, focusing on quality, service and innovation.

Categories include best artisan food and drink producers, farm shop, independent food and drink retailer, newcomer, street food trader and chef or cook of the year.

The awards will be raising money for The Trussell Trust network of eight foodbanks in the region.

All finalists will be invited to a special finalist’s night on June 6, although the venue is still to be announced.

There will also be cook off events in June to decide the winners of the Fine Dining and Casual Dining categories.

The Best Casual Dining award will be co judged by BBC’s Junior Bake Off judge Rav Gill, who will join Paul and Glynn on the panel.

These include categories for best Artisan Food Producer, Fine Dining Chef of the Year and best Fine Dining Chef of the Year.

Paul Foster said: “We are very fortunate in Warwickshire to have a thriving food scene backed up by incredible suppliers, and the foodie awards are a great way to celebrate what’s great about our area.”
