Staff to walk 200km in 24 hours in honour of co-workers teenage daughter

STAFF from a company whose headquartes are in Coventry are walking 200 kilometers in 24 hours in honour of a co-workers teenage daughter.

Twelve colleagues from utilities connections company Power On are walking the Thames Path from Putney Bridge in London to Henley Oxfordshire in memory of Izzy Sheppard from Suffolk.

In January 2020, Izzy, then aged 12, suddenly struggled to walk. After two weeks in hospital, she was diagnosed with a synovial sarcoma in her groin.

Izzy had chemotherapy and her leg was amputated.

Izzy wanted to raise awareness and worked for a fundraising scheme by charity Sarcoma UK where she shared details of her experience.

In October 2022, Izzy unexpectedly suffered a brain bleed and the cancer had returned, this time it had spread to her brain, lungs, kidney and adrenal gland.

Izzy died aged just 15 in December 2022.

Cholletta Thompson, who is a construction support team leader at Power On, said: “This incredible show of support from our team is a testament to our collective passion for making a difference in the fight against sarcoma.

“We want to support the work of Sarcoma UK in raising awareness and helping research into this terrible disease that took the life of Sam’s cherished daughter, Izzy.”

Sam said: “So far more than £28,000 has been raised in the fund in Izzy’s name, and I am so touched that colleagues at Power On are taking part in this challenge in her memory.”
