Sports centre holding ‘Tour De Coventry’ challenges next month

Coventry Editorial 26th Jun, 2022   0

THE SPORTS and Wellness Hub on the University of Warwick campus has launched the ‘Tour De Coventry’ special challenge series for cycling beginners and experienced riders.

The sports centre will host its own Tour de France tasks between July 1 and 31, where participants can head over to a designated area of the gym to take part in three challenges.

Between July 1 and 18, the three quickest riders in the ‘Fastest kilometre’ challenge will be rewarded.

There will also be a 30-second power output competition between July 10 and July 17, with the top three entrants in the male and female leaderboards receiving a prize.

People will also get the chance to complete a 20-minute functional threshold power test between July 3 and July 10, with everyone taking part rewarded with a prize upon completion.

Virtual weekly tasks will also take place, including a Community Challenge to see if participants can reach 3,359 kilometres between them.

A team and individual challenge to see who can cycle the furthest will also take place, which will be operated through the Hub’s Warwick Wellness app.

Sports and Wellness Hub’s head of operations Louise Davies said: “We’re gearing up to celebrate the return of the Tour de France here at the Hub, and we couldn’t be more excited to unveil our special challenges.

“Whether it’s practiced outdoors or indoors, cycling has many health benefits, from building lower muscles to improving overall fitness.

“Our expert team has put together some fantastic activities designed to suit all abilities, so we’re looking forward to getting residents on a bike and embracing their inner Bradley Wiggins.”
