THE SCOTTISH singer who found fame singing traditional sea shanties on TikTok is heading to Coventry on tour.

Nathan Evans, who had global success with his rendition of ‘Wellerman’, will perform at the Rialto Plaza on December 19.

Following its release, ‘Wellerman’ amassed 120million Spotify streams and 1.5million global sales. It reached number one in seven countries, including the UK.

It all started when Nathan, from Airdrie, North Lanarkshire in Scotland, decided to start uploading songs to TikTok after completing his morning duties as a postman.

He soon found himself at the centre of a new cultural movement whirling around sea shanties with his own videos racking up millions of views overnight.

Now, signed to Universal Music and taking his music career full time, he follows in the chart dominating footsteps of those he has always admired including Dermot Kennedy, Lewis Capaldi and Ed Sheeran as well as finding unlikely fans in Andrew Lloyd Webber, Gary Barlow and Brian May who have also uploaded their own renditions of the song to TikTok.

Speaking about his success, Nathan said: “This has been my dream since I was six years old, and now it’s coming true and I cannot wait to see all you guys there!

“It’s going to be amazing!”
