REVEALED - The first charity to appear on the Coventry edition of MONOPOLY

THE FIRST charity to get a space on the Coventry edition of MONOPOLY has been revealed.

The Myton Hospices is the first to ‘Pass GO’ after earning plenty of nominations during the public vote.

The Myton Hospices will be immortalised on the board, on one of the game’s Community Chest spaces with the other five charities set to be announced at a later date.

George Shrimpton the Games Executive at Winning Moves UK, which is producing the game under licensing from Hasbro, said: “A big congratulations to Coventry Myton Hospice and an even bigger thank you to everyone who sent in nominations.

Myton has three hospices in Coventry, Rugby and Warwick – and also have the only Inpatient beds in Coventry and Warwickshire.

Last year, despite the challenges, they still supported 1,400 people and their families, in their hospices.

Ruth Freeman, CEO for The Myton Hospices, said: “We are delighted to be part of the new Coventry MONOPOLY game and want to thank everyone who nominated us.

“Our community is at the heart of our vital work, supporting people with life-limiting illnesses and their families, so to feature on one of the Community Chest spaces is very fitting.”

The Coventry edition of Monopoly was announced in April to celebrate it becoming UK City of Culture – a whole generation on from the last time there was one centred on the city.

At the time the public was invited to send in suggestions for the 30 plus local landmarks and six charities to feature on the board.

To qualify and be in the running to be selected, the charities had to be ‘Coventry focused’ and official.

Mr Shrimpton added: “We would like to formally thank each and every person who sent in nominations.

“We feel that charities getting to feature on all the Community Chest spaces and some of the Community Chest cards is a great fit, bearing in mind the ‘community’ aspect of these unique MONOPOLY features.”

The new game will hit the shops in November (2021), in time for Christmas.
